From Milking cows to moving Dirt

In 1984, Ron Gerber couldn't stand to milk one more cow on his family's dairy in Vernon, CT. So, him and a friend put their money together to buy a 1974 Ford backhoe, and set off to find someone in need of his services. Ron grew a passion for excavation work as he experimented in many of the local backyards, performing small tasks. He always points out the "big" three foot diameter rock he moved for an elderly lady everytime he drives past. Ron put his head down and put in the hours to build the Heavy Civil and Utility firm that is the Gerber Construction of today.

Building a reputation

Gerber quickly grew from completing backyard projects to completing large scale sitework packages and utility work. From the beginning, quality and integrity have been made a priority. As the projects got larger- so did our team. We have grown immensely, with no intent to slow down. Investing in our equipment, new technology and most importantly our team of experts, has propelled us to become a leading contractor in Connecticut, with our sights set much further. We are a family here at Gerber, and each new hire gets grafted in. We are thrilled to be in the position we are, and it is all thanks to the hard working men and women we call our own!
